The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit has debunked an AI‑generated deepfake video circulating on social media that falsely claimed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had resigned.
In a post on X, PIB clarified that the video was digitally manipulated and that Pradhan “did not make any such statement.” The agency shared the original, unedited video to counter misinformation and urged citizens to rely only on official sources for verified information.
The fake clip, which appeared amid ongoing protests over NEET exam irregularities, showed Pradhan announcing his resignation “for personal reasons.” PIB stressed that the content was fabricated and appealed to the public to report suspicious material related to the Central Government to its Fact Check Unit via WhatsApp +91 8799711259 or email at factcheck@pib.gov.in.
Officials noted that similar deepfakes had also falsely depicted the Prime Minister making threatening remarks against demonstrators. PIB reiterated that it verifies only information related to the Government of India and encouraged citizens to cross‑check viral content with official government handles before sharing.
