In a disturbing turn of events, Skeletal remains believed to be that of a missing teenage girl were recovered from the dense Gasmā forest in Kandhamal district, Odisha, sparking a suspected murder probe.
The grim discovery was made on Sunday, when locals noticed scattered human bones deep in the forest under Chakapad police limits. Responding promptly, police recovered a partially decomposed skeleton, a skull, and torn pieces of female clothing.
Police traced reports of a recently missing girl from Bhalugada village in Ganjam district. The victim’s father, who had just returned from work outside the district, identified the clothes as belonging to his 15-year-old daughter, who had vanished days earlier. Although the final identification awaits DNA confirmation, her father has no doubts: “My daughter has been killed.”
The remains were sent to MKCG Medical College in Brahmapur for autopsy and DNA analysis. Preliminary signs point toward foul play, with officers not ruling out abduction or murder. “We’re pursuing every possible lead,” said Bhanjanagar SDPO Sujit Nayak, affirming that dedicated teams are on the case.
Coordination is underway between Kandhamal and Ganjam district police to examine call records, gather witness accounts, and reconstruct the girl’s final movements. The incident has sparked widespread grief and anxiety in both regions, as residents await answers and justice.
