Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has assured the public that Odisha’s current flood situation is fully under control.
While acknowledging the ongoing challenges, he emphasised that the government is actively monitoring and managing the crisis.
“There’s no cause for panic,” said Pujari. “The situation is gradually improving, and water levels are expected to recede.”
Currently, red alerts are in place for Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas and additional inflow from Jharkhand’s dams. The Subarnarekha River has witnessed a steady rise in water level, prompting emergency response units to take proactive steps.
Rescue and relief operations have been ramped up, with vulnerable populations being shifted to designated relief centres. Two ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) teams have been dispatched from Cuttack to Balasore to support evacuation and assistance efforts.
Coordination is underway with the Jharkhand government to regulate dam discharges. The Meteorological Department has also issued a forecast of further rainfall in the region due to a developing low-pressure system, which authorities are closely watching.
Preliminary reports indicate significant crop and horticultural damage across several low-lying zones. Assessment teams are being deployed to evaluate the losses and ensure timely compensation to affected farmers.
The state government urges citizens to remain vigilant and follow official advisories while reassuring that all necessary precautionary measures are in place to handle the evolving situation.
