16 Maoists, including six carrying a combined bounty of Rs 39 lakh, surrendered before the Jharkhand Police in Ranchi on Tuesday.

Among those who laid down arms was Santosh Mahto alias Basudev Da alias Dilip, a regional committee member of the banned CPI (Maoist), wanted in 128 cases and carrying a reward of ₹15 lakh. Police confirmed that five women cadres were also part of the surrender.

The group included a regional committee member, a zonal committee member, two sub‑zonal committee members, and two area committee functionaries. Another key figure, Chandan Lohra, a zonal committee member wanted in 78 cases with a ₹10 lakh bounty, also surrendered.

Weapons recovered from the group included six INSAS rifles, two AK‑47 rifles, 38 magazines, and 1,562 cartridges.

Jharkhand DGP Tadasha Mishra hailed the surrender as another “big achievement” for the state police, reiterating the commitment to eliminate extremism.

Police data shows that in 2026 alone, 93 Maoists have been arrested, 45 have surrendered, and 22 have been killed in encounters across Jharkhand.
