Six Arrested After Durga Puja Clash in Cuttack, DCP Injured

A group clash disrupted the Durga Puja idol immersion procession in Cuttack late Friday night. The incident occurred between 2 am and 2:30 am near Dargha Bazaar.


Stone-pelting injured six people, including Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo. He sustained an eye injury that required stitches. Doctors confirmed his condition remains stable.

Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed the arrests. Officers used drone surveillance and CCTV footage to identify the accused. All six were taken into custody and will be presented in court.

The idol immersion concluded peacefully by 9:30 am Saturday. The clash happened hours later, catching authorities off guard.

Police increased their presence in the area. Investigators continue gathering evidence and questioning witnesses.

Locals expressed concern over rising tensions during festive events. Authorities assured strict action against those disturbing public order.

Commissioner Singh stated that none of the injuries were life-threatening. All victims are expected to be discharged by the end of the day.

The Durga Puja clash raised questions about crowd control and security planning. Officials plan to review protocols for future events.

The arrested individuals face charges under public disturbance and assault. Police have not disclosed their identities.
