Authorities closed Shikharachandi Temple in Bhubaneshwar indefinitely after reports of wild elephants roaming the area.
The decision aims to protect visitors and local residents from possible danger.
Two tuskers were spotted moving around the popular picnic and tourist spot in Bhubaneswar. Forest officials immediately restricted entry to ensure safety.
According to reports, the elephants strayed from the nearby Chandaka-Dampada sanctuary and entered the Shikharachandi Hills region. Their presence created panic among locals. Recently, a herd of four elephants was also seen in the same area, intensifying fear.
The Forest Department has launched efforts to drive the elephants back safely to the sanctuary. Officials said the operation will continue until the animals return to their natural habitat.
This incident highlights the growing human-elephant conflict in Odisha. Shrinking habitats and deforestation force elephants to move closer to human settlements, creating risks for both people and wildlife.
Forest officials advised residents to remain alert and avoid the restricted zone. The closure will remain in effect until the elephants leave the area.
