Tension briefly flared inside the historic Lingaraj Temple in Odisha’s capital on Sunday after a scuffle reportedly broke out between two groups of servitors during the ongoing Maha Shivratri celebrations.
According to initial information, the incident began as a verbal disagreement and escalated into pushing and a physical confrontation within the temple premises. The altercation caused temporary disruption inside the complex at a time when large numbers of devotees had gathered for darshan.
Police Intervention
Police personnel deployed for Maha Shivratri security arrangements intervened promptly to restore order. Sources said there were also minor clashes between some servitors and police during the intervention. However, authorities managed to bring the situation under control swiftly.
No injuries have been officially confirmed so far.
Alleged Cause of Dispute
Preliminary reports suggest that the tension may have arisen over an issue related to servitors bringing family members for darshan amid heavy festival rush. Officials have not yet issued a detailed statement on the matter.
The temple had earlier witnessed elaborate security arrangements, including the deployment of multiple platoons of police and senior officers, to manage the expected turnout of devotees for the sacred festival.
Situation Under Control
