A shocking late-night attack in Mayurbhanj district claimed the life of a school warden and left the principal critically injured.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday near Baisinga when unidentified assailants intercepted the victims on their way home.
The deceased, identified as Sanyashi Das (50) of Uttarpal village, worked as a warden at Sri Aurobindo School in Gadadeulia. He was riding his motorcycle with school principal Kadamini Rout (55) as a pillion when attackers struck. Reports suggest the assailants used a hard plastic pipe and a knife to assault Das. Rout attempted to intervene but sustained head injuries during the attack.
Despite her injuries, Rout managed to escape and rushed back to the school premises. She alerted students and staff, who quickly informed the school owner and her family. The school cook contacted Bijay Rout, who arrived at the scene and transported both victims to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors declared Das dead on arrival, while Rout received emergency treatment before being referred to SCB Medical College in Cuttack for advanced care.
Sources confirmed that Das suffered multiple stab wounds to his neck and back. Police dispatched a scientific team to the crime scene and began investigating from all possible angles. Officers stated that they are working to identify and apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
