In a clinical display of power hitting and disciplined bowling, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) silenced the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night, crushing arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) by 103 runs.
The win, anchored by a masterful century from Sanju Samson, further solidifies CSK’s standing in the 2026 IPL season.
The Samson Show
After being put in to bat, CSK faced an early scare, losing openers quickly. However, Sanju Samson turned the tide with an aggressive yet calculated unbeaten 101 off just 54 deliveries. Samson dismantled the MI pace attack, hitting eight sixes and six boundaries. Supported by a late-innings cameo from the middle order, CSK posted a formidable 207/6.
MI’s bowling unit struggled to find their rhythm, with Jasprit Bumrah being the only notable exception, though even he couldn’t stem the flow of runs in the death overs.
MI’s Batting Collapse
The chase was a nightmare for the home side from the start. Mumbai Indians’ top order crumbled under the pressure of the 200+ target. While Suryakumar Yadav showed brief resistance with a fighting 36, he found no support at the other end.
The star with the ball was Akeal Hosein, who produced a magic spell of 4/17. His ability to extract turn and bounce from the Wankhede track left the MI middle order clueless. The five-time champions were eventually bundled out for a mere 104 in 19 overs, marking one of their heaviest defeats in recent history.
The Rivalry Continues
This victory brings CSK closer in the head-to-head record, with MI now leading 22-20 across all competitions. For Mumbai Indians, the massive deficit in Net Run Rate (NRR) will be a significant concern as the race for the playoffs intensifies.
The two titans of the IPL are set for a rematch on May 2nd at Chepauk, where MI will look to avenge this embarrassing home defeat.
