The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced that its flagship digital safety initiative, Sanchar Saathi, recovered more than 50,000 lost and stolen mobile phones across India in October 2025.

With this achievement, overall recoveries have now crossed 7 lakh handsets nationwide.

Karnataka and Telangana led the performance charts, each crossing 1 lakh recoveries, while Maharashtra followed with over 80,000. Monthly recoveries surged by 47 per cent between June and October, highlighting the accelerating impact of the platform. On average, India now recovers one lost phone every minute through Sanchar Saathi.

At the core of this success lies an indigenously developed platform that integrates automated workflows and real-time device traceability. The system prevents misuse of blocked devices by triggering alerts to both citizens and police stations whenever a SIM is inserted into a reported handset.

DoT credited the milestone to seamless coordination between police forces across states and union territories, the Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU), and field formations. Regular capacity-building programmes and partnerships with state police have strengthened on-ground response and operational excellence.

Union officials urged citizens to download the Sanchar Saathi App to report and block lost or stolen devices, verify the authenticity of new or old phones, and report suspected fraudulent calls or messages. The app also enables users to cross-check trusted contact details of banks and financial institutions.

Sanchar Saathi continues to empower citizens and safeguard digital assets under the Digital India vision, reinforcing trust in technology-driven governance and strengthening nationwide digital security.
