Samsung has started the global rollout of One UI 9 for the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The update combines Android 17 with a new set of Galaxy AI features, privacy tools, security improvements and interface changes.
The update represents one of Samsung’s biggest software pushes around Galaxy AI since the platform was introduced. Alongside the Android 17 upgrade, Samsung is highlighting features such as My FanCam, Now Nudge, Privacy Alerts, expanded Scam Detection, Quick Panel customisation and improved DeX window management.
Samsung has also included the September 2026 security patch as part of the update.
My FanCam brings AI-powered video reframing
One of the most visible additions is My FanCam, which automatically keeps a selected person in focus while reframing video footage.
Users can select a subject in a group recording, allowing the software to continuously adjust the frame as that person moves. The feature can also be applied to footage that has already been recorded, potentially making it useful for family events, school programmes and other group videos.
The feature was previously introduced on Samsung’s foldable devices and is now being expanded across the Galaxy S26 flagship range.
Now Nudge focuses on contextual AI
Now Nudge is designed to provide contextual suggestions based on conversations and activities on the device.
For example, if a conversation mentions dinner on a particular day, the feature can suggest creating a calendar event. It can also provide relevant quick replies or other actions based on the context.
Samsung says the processing is performed on-device, meaning conversation content is not sent to its servers for these suggestions.
The approach places privacy at the centre of Samsung’s latest AI push as smartphone makers compete to integrate increasingly sophisticated AI assistants into everyday tasks.
Privacy and security features get an upgrade
One UI 9 also introduces Privacy Alerts, designed to warn users about potentially unusual app behaviour.
Instead of simply informing users about permissions granted to an application, the feature can flag suspicious activity while it is occurring. Samsung says the processing takes place locally on the device.
The update also expands Scam Detection to additional countries and languages. The feature is aimed at identifying potentially fraudulent or suspicious interactions and giving users an additional layer of protection.
One UI 9 expands beyond Galaxy S26
Samsung’s One UI 9 strategy is not limited to its latest flagship smartphones.
The Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are scheduled to begin receiving the update from September 28. Samsung has also committed to extending the rollout to other eligible Galaxy devices through the end of 2026.
The broader distribution could make Samsung’s AI and security features available to a substantially larger installed user base rather than restricting them to new hardware.
One UI 9 arrives as AI competition intensifies
Samsung is rolling out One UI 9 as competition between smartphone manufacturers increasingly centres on AI.
Google continues to integrate Gemini across its Pixel ecosystem, while Apple is expanding Apple Intelligence across its latest iPhone lineup. Samsung is simultaneously developing AI experiences for smartphones and exploring newer device categories.
Samsung’s Galaxy Glasses, announced earlier this year, represent part of that broader strategy, with Google Gemini integrated into the wearable platform.
That makes Samsung’s emphasis on privacy and local processing increasingly significant as AI-powered devices gain access to more personal data and sensors.
What One UI 9 means for Galaxy AI
The One UI 9 update strengthens Samsung’s Galaxy AI ecosystem with features that focus on video, contextual assistance, privacy and security.
My FanCam and Now Nudge are among the most prominent additions, while features such as Privacy Alerts and expanded Scam Detection target more practical everyday concerns.
The bigger test for Samsung, however, will be whether these tools become features that users regularly rely on rather than additions that attract attention mainly when a new software version launches.
With One UI 9 now beginning its global rollout, Samsung is giving Galaxy AI another opportunity to become a more central part of the smartphone experience.
