A shocking crime has come to light in Sambalpur district, where a 24‑year‑old woman was allegedly murdered over a love affair.
Her body was recovered on Saturday from the Badrama ghat area along National Highway‑53.
Police identified the deceased as a resident of Mahuldiha village under Kusumi outpost in Kuchinda. She was employed at a beauty parlour in Kuchinda town, where she reportedly developed a relationship with the prime accused, Anil Prusty of Telikundaposhi.
The accused, along with his associate Ashok Kishan, a Bolero driver from Tilaimati in Sundargarh district, was arrested by Kuchinda police. Investigators said the woman had gone missing since Thursday evening. After her family lodged a complaint on Friday, police registered a missing case and detained the suspects for questioning.
Initially, the prime accused tried to mislead investigators by taking them to different locations. However, based on his statement, police traced the body to Badrama ghat. A scientific team from Sambalpur collected samples from the crime scene, while police recreated the sequence of events.
Preliminary investigation suggests the woman was killed elsewhere and her body later dumped at the ghat using the Bolero vehicle. The body has been sent for post‑mortem, and police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the report is available.
