A woman from Kankarailo village under Salipur block has died after attempting self-immolation due to a family dispute.
The deceased, identified as Tilottama Rout, sustained nearly 60% burn injuries and was initially admitted to the Salipur Community Health Centre. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Tilottama allegedly poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire following a domestic altercation. Despite efforts by medical staff, her condition remained critical, and she passed away during treatment.
The case has sparked renewed concern over mental health awareness and domestic conflict resolution in rural Odisha. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide support to the grieving family.
