The body of a 23-year-old Odia migrant worker was recovered in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, sparking allegations of suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The deceased has been identified as Kumar Majhi, a resident of Panaspadar village under Shankarda Panchayat in Rayagada district’s Kashipur block. Kumar had been working for the past five years at a private company in Kondapalli, Vijayawada.

According to reports, Kumar left for some work in the city last Friday but did not return to his accommodation. He also failed to report for duty on Saturday. Concerned colleagues lodged a written complaint with the local police, who later traced and recovered his body.

Human rights activist Sadan Majhi informed the police after receiving initial reports, while Congress youth leader Jagadish Sunari confirmed that the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

District Labour Officer Rabindra Tripathy stated that after receiving information, the Odisha authorities contacted the Andhra Pradesh Labour Department. He added that Kashipur Additional Labour Officer Bishnu Nayak has been directed to monitor the case closely.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and welfare of Odia migrant workers employed outside the state. Police investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death.
