The wreckage of the Russian An-24 passenger plane, which disappeared from radar earlier today, has been located in the eastern Amur region, according to local media reports cited by Reuters.
A rescue helicopter discovered the burning fuselage of the aircraft near its intended destination of Tynda, a town close to the China border.
Russian air traffic control had lost contact with the aircraft, operated by the Siberia-based airline Angara, while it was on approach to Tynda. Preliminary data suggests 49 people were on board, including 43 passengers (five children) and six crew members, said Regional Governor Vasily Orlov.
