Odisha Vigilance has arrested Manoranjan Sahoo, Ex-Senior Clerk of Hindol Sub-Treasury, for allegedly misappropriating government funds to the tune of Rs 68.85 lakh.
Officials confirmed that Sahoo, who had been absconding for the past two years to evade Vigilance action, was apprehended late last night.
Investigations revealed that Sahoo fraudulently drew government funds meant for family pension holders. Instead of crediting the money to beneficiaries’ accounts, he systematically diverted the amount to his own and relatives’ bank accounts. The total misappropriated sum stands at Rs 68,85,497.
A case has been registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 32/2024. The accused is being forwarded to the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal today. Proceedings will be conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act).
The Vigilance Department has stated that further investigation into the matter is underway.
