In a significant step toward boosting Odisha’s industrial prowess, a key meeting was held in New Delhi to address the challenges surrounding the expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan joined hands with Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram to deliberate on the path forward.
During the discussion, Minister Pradhan proposed the formation of a high-level committee to resolve bottlenecks affecting the plant’s expansion. The proposal received prompt approval from the Union Steel Minister, marking a critical development in the state’s industrial landscape.
Thanking the Steel Minister, Pradhan emphasised that the RSP expansion is crucial for Odisha’s industrial, social, and economic development, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Purvodaya vision to accelerate Eastern India’s growth.
The expansion is expected to boost steel production capacity, reduce dependency on imports, and meet the demands of key industrial sectors. It also promises to significantly generate employment in both the steel and allied sectors, further strengthening Odisha’s economic backbone.
Pradhan lauded the commitment of the Union Steel Ministry towards the steel sector in Odisha, describing it as a transformative opportunity for the region’s prosperity.
