Rourkela Police launched a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking in the city ahead of the New Year celebrations.

The extensive operation began yesterday and continued today as part of a focused drive to curb unlawful activities involving firearms.

According to sources, police detained three individuals for questioning in connection with the illegal arms trade. During the raids, officers seized three firearms along with more than 20 cartridges. This marked a significant breakthrough in the ongoing operation.

Acting under the directions of Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani, multiple police teams carried out coordinated raids across Plant Site, Udit Nagar, Brahmani Tarang, and the Sector-15 police station jurisdiction. Moreover, the teams collected crucial information about the illegal procurement and circulation of firearms.

The detained suspects are undergoing interrogation to determine the extent of the arms network and to identify other persons involved in the racket. Furthermore, police sources confirmed that more details regarding the seizures, arrests, and overall progress will be shared during a press conference at the police headquarters this afternoon.

Ultimately, Rourkela Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for citizens, especially in the run-up to New Year celebrations.
