Actor and wellness icon Malaika Arora has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges she faced following her divorce from actor-producer Arbaaz Khan in 2017. In a recent interview, Malaika revealed that the decision to end her marriage was met with significant judgment—not only from the public but also from people closest to her.

Malaika and Arbaaz were married for nearly two decades, from 1998 to 2017, and share a son, Arhaan Khan, who is now 23. Reflecting on that period, Malaika shared that she was repeatedly questioned about prioritising her own happiness.

“I faced a lot of judgment and backlash, not just from the public, but even from my friends and family,” she said. “People questioned my choices and asked how I could put my happiness first. But I knew at that moment that I needed to make that move in my life.”

Despite the uncertainty of what lay ahead, Malaika said she has no regrets about standing by her decision. She emphasised that choosing personal well-being was essential, even if it meant facing criticism and being on her own.

The actor also clarified that her experience has not changed her belief in love or marriage. “I do believe in marriage, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s meant for me,” she explained. “If it happens again, that’s wonderful. But I’m not actively seeking it. I’m content with my life.”

Malaika added that she remains open to love and values meaningful relationships. “I love the idea of love—being loved and sharing love. I’m open to nurturing something beautiful if it comes naturally,” she said.

Following their separation, Arbaaz Khan recently married stylist Shura Khan, while Malaika has chosen not to remarry. She was previously in a high-profile relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor, which lasted from 2016 to 2024.

Malaika’s reflections highlight the importance of self-agency, emotional well-being, and the courage it takes to make life choices that may not align with societal expectations.
