Mumbai Indians (MI) displayed a masterclass in chasing as they secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Chasing 144, MI reached the target with ease in just 15.4 overs.
SRH’s innings started on a rocky note, with Trent Boult wreaking havoc early, dismissing Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Deepak Chahar followed with a tight spell, conceding only 12 runs and claiming two wickets. Despite Heinrich Klaasen’s fighting knock of 71 off 44 balls and support from Abhinav Manohar (43), SRH’s batsmen struggled to build partnerships, finishing at 143/8.
MI, on the other hand, executed a controlled chase led by captain Rohit Sharma, who scored a commanding 70 off 46 deliveries. Will Jacks contributed with 22 runs, setting the platform for Suryakumar Yadav to deliver the finishing touches. His explosive 40* off 19 balls saw MI cross the finish line in style.
SRH’s captain, Pat Cummins, reflected on the defeat, stating, “We need to adapt better and build stronger partnerships. Losing wickets at regular intervals cost us today.”
Mumbai Indians’ remarkable form has solidified their position as contenders for the title, while SRH will look to regroup and bounce back in the upcoming games.
