A violent incident in Kantabanji, Balangir district, has sparked tension after a youth was brutally attacked with sharp weapons.
The victim, identified as Baladeb Banchhor of Dongamara village, was reportedly assaulted due to past enmity and family disputes.
According to sources, Baladeb was on his way to Kantabanji when a group of assailants intercepted him near the Chatuanka road close to a flour mill and launched a deadly attack. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed by locals to the Kantabanji Community Health Centre. Later, due to his critical condition, he was referred to the Balangir District Headquarters Hospital.
Following the incident, tension escalated in the village. The victim’s family allegedly retaliated by vandalising houses belonging to the rival group. Police from Kantabanji station quickly reached the spot to bring the situation under control.
Authorities confirmed that both sides are being counselled to prevent further escalation. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused, while investigations into the attack continue.
