A wedding feast in Ballavpur village under Padmapur police station in Rayagada district turned tragic when a drunk youth attacked a villager with an axe, killing him.
The victim, identified as 37-year-old Ravi Sabar, was enjoying the feast with others when the accused Shyam Paraja arrived in an intoxicated state. Without provocation, Shyam suddenly struck Ravi with an axe, inflicting three deep wounds. Ravi collapsed, bleeding heavily.
Villagers and family members rushed him to Padmapur hospital for treatment. Despite efforts, Ravi succumbed to his injuries while under medical care.
Police reached the hospital, seized the body, and began an investigation. Officers confirmed that the accused fled the scene immediately after the attack. Padmapur police have launched raids in multiple locations to arrest him.
The incident shocked the local community, turning a joyous wedding celebration into mourning. Residents demanded strict action against the accused and expressed grief over the loss of Ravi.
Authorities assured that efforts are underway to apprehend Shyam Paraja and bring him to justice.
