Bhubaneswar Police arrested six accused in connection with the Chandrasekharpur murder case involving the death of Varun Kumar Rautaray.
Investigators confirmed that personal enmity linked to a love triangle triggered the fatal attack.
Police registered Chandrasekharpur PS Case No. 544 dated 30.05.2026 based on a written complaint by Ashok Rautaray. Investigations revealed that the accused Suraj Biswakarma had a long-standing relationship with a woman named Deepika Mishra. Later, Varun developed closeness with her, leading to repeated disputes between the two men.
On the night of May 29–30, Varun and his friends visited Mahima Juice Centre at Sailashree Vihar, where Suraj and his associates were present. Initially, both sides reached a compromise, but later returned to the spot, sparking fresh arguments and violence.
Police said Suraj and his associates chased Varun and his friends in a black Thar vehicle. Near Acharya Harihar College, they deliberately rammed Varun’s motorcycle and ran him over with the Thar, causing fatal injuries. Varun died on the spot, while his friends Alok Mallik and Balwant alias Godhi sustained serious injuries and remain under treatment.
During the investigation, police seized the black Thar (OD-14-Z-2338) and a two-wheeler used by the accused. The arrested men include Bapuni alias Bramhananda Das, Chidananda alias Papu Das, Asish alias Pintu Dehury, Swastik alias Saroj Bhardwaj, Suraj Biswakarma, and Sridhara Nayak.
