Cuttack: Barely 24 hours after issuing a notification that barred students from staging demonstration and riding bike on the campus with use of mobile phone, the Ravenshaw University authorities on Friday withdrew the same under pressure from several quarters and students’ unrest.
The varsity on Thursday issued a notification barring hostel inmates from riding bike and staging protest in front of the institution. The notice also stated that no student can take part in dharna or hunger strike in front of the varsity gate.
Similarly, students were also barred from consuming tobacco and alcohol on the premises. Use of mobile phone inside classroom had also been restricted. Moreover, students had been directed to refrain from audio or video recording in classroom.
The students had been asked to submit an affidavit in the Hostel during admission.
The notification further read that authorities or any authorized staff can seek identity proof of the students at any time in the campus. The authorities would take disciplinary action against students indulged in misconduct, violent activities and breach of security.
The notification had drawn flak from the students and alumni association who met local leaders terming the move ‘undemocratic’.
