Cuttack: Ravenshaw University’s Department of Sociology organised the National Symposium for faculty knowledge, sharing programme on Field, Fieldwork and the Field Worker: Doing Research and Teaching in Social Sciences in collaboration with ICFAI Business School (IBS), Kolkata at Hotel Dwarka, Cuttack on 23rd of October, 2022.
The panel of eminence included academic giants – Prof. Dibyendu Nandy & Dr. A. Mandal (Faculty member of IBS Kolkata), Dr. Bimal Chandra Nanda (Deputy Director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Bhubaneswar) and Dr. Bikram Keshari Mishra (Professor & Head, Dept. of Sociology, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack).
The Symposium revolved around certain crucial issues concerning the field, fieldwork and fieldworker, and exchanged ideas about doing teaching and research in social sciences domain which included topics like ethical dilemmas in field research, analysis of the research data, respecting the privacy and dignity of the research participants and all other involved in the research process, and conducting the research with integrity throughout, using the most appropriate method.
The Symposium was attended by professors and researchers from various institutions, both from and outside Odisha. The resource persons and the delegates shared their enlightening views on making social sciences research more transparent and accessible while emphasizing on the validity of research data collected by ensuring compliance with the human rights ethical guidelines.
Dr. Manasmita Mohapatra, Dr. Roshina Yusufi, Dr. Lucy Mishra, Dr. Gyana Ranjan Prusty, Sagarjeet Bhattacharya, and researcher Silan Das coordinated The sessions. The students of both Sociology Department of Ravenshaw University and the Team of IBS played the role of moderator and structured the discussion peacefully.
The symposium was attended by around hundred delegates including faculty members, development professionals, policymakers and researchers from across the country. The chief moderators of the program included – Rohit Kumar Das & Yash Sharma (Dept. of sociology), and Ashutosh Tripathy (IBS).
