The ‘Paita Lagi’ ritual of Lord Jagannath and his siblings will take place today at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, marking an important occasion in the temple’s traditional calendar.
The public darshan will be suspended for four hours from 6 PM to 10 PM to allow the ritual to proceed smoothly. The ‘Paita Lagi’ ritual, performed on Baisakh Krushna Chaturthi, involves the Daitapati servitors adorning the deities with the sacred thread known as Paita. The ceremony symbolises divine protection and purity.
After the second Bhogmandap offering, the servitors will begin the ritual inside the sanctum. The temple administration will ensure all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the ceremony while maintaining strict discipline and devotion.
The ritual holds deep spiritual significance as it represents the renewal of divine energy and the safeguarding of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The Daitapati servitors carry out the ceremony collectively, following centuries-old temple tradition.
