A prisoner’s suspicious death inside Bolangir jail has sparked controversy, with family members alleging foul play.
The deceased has been identified as Bhishmadev Sahu alias Gopal (37) of Kushang village under Balangir Sadar police station.
Bhishmadev had been serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2021 for the murder of his wife. On Saturday, jail authorities discovered his body in a hanging position inside the prison cell. Officials informed his family that he had died by suicide.
The body was sent to Bhima Bhoi Medical College for post-mortem examination. However, Bhishmadev’s relatives have accused jail authorities of murder, claiming he could not have taken his own life. They demanded a thorough probe into the circumstances of his death.
Police have assured that the matter will be investigated and appropriate legal action will follow based on the autopsy report.
