In a landmark diplomatic engagement, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, visited the Slovak Republic on the final leg of her State Visit to Portugal and Slovakia. Marking the first visit by an Indian President to Slovakia in 29 years, this trip aims to bolster ties and enhance cooperation across sectors.
President Murmu was warmly welcomed at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava by Slovak President H.E. Peter Pellegrini, where a traditional Slovak ceremony featuring bread, salt, and folk attire was held. Discussions between the leaders covered diverse aspects of bilateral relations, emphasizing the convergence of democratic values and shared global priorities. The exchange of two significant MoUs—one on MSME collaboration and another on diplomatic training—further underscored the visit’s importance.
During her visit, President Murmu also interacted with other key Slovak leaders, including the Speaker of the National Council, H.E. Mr. Richard Raši, and Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Robert Fico. Discussions centered on expanding cooperation in sectors such as the creative economy, media, and joint film production. An invitation for Slovakia to participate in the upcoming WAVE Summit in Mumbai added another layer to the growing partnership.
President Murmu’s historic visit signals a renewed commitment to strengthening India-Slovakia ties, fostering collaboration, and exploring new avenues of mutual interest.
