India delivered a commanding performance to defeat Pakistan by 61 runs in the 27th match of Group A at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, played under lights at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India rode on Ishan Kishan’s aggressive 77 off just 40 deliveries to post a competitive 175 for 7. Kishan struck nine fours and four sixes, targeting Pakistan’s pace attack early and giving India the perfect launchpad in the powerplay. Contributions from the middle order helped India recover from a brief stutter and set a challenging total on a surface offering turn.
Pakistan’s chase never gained momentum. The innings imploded in the powerplay as they slipped to 38 for 4, with India’s seamers and spinners applying relentless pressure. Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy were the standout performers, each claiming two wickets while maintaining exceptional economy in the middle overs. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 114 in 18 overs, handing India a comprehensive victory in one of world cricket’s most intense rivalries.
The result gives India a strong start in the group stage and boosts their net run rate significantly.
India will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming fixtures, while Pakistan face early pressure to bounce back in the Super 8 race.
