President Droupadi Murmu has arrived in Portugal for the first leg of a four-day State Visit, marking the first such journey by an Indian President in nearly three decades.
This historic visit comes amidst significant global economic shifts, as India deepens its engagement with Europe.
During her two-day stay in Portugal, President Murmu is set to meet top leaders, including President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. Discussions will focus on trade relations, valued at USD 1.5 billion annually, and cooperation in renewable energy, IT, defense, and education.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of India-Portugal diplomatic ties, the visit also underscores cultural and community connections. President Murmu will pay tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi statue and attend receptions celebrating the Indian diaspora in Portugal.
Following her visit to Portugal, President Murmu will travel to the Slovak Republic, where she will engage in high-level talks, visit the Jaguar Land Rover facility, and participate in traditional ceremonies symbolizing friendship and goodwill.
This two-nation tour reaffirms India’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships in Europe and globally.
