President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday embarked on a landmark three‑nation European tour covering Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania, aimed at strengthening India’s bilateral cooperation in commerce, technology, agriculture, healthcare, and cultural exchanges.
The visit begins in Moldova on Monday, marking the first‑ever trip by an Indian Head of State to the Eastern European nation. President Murmu will hold talks with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and address a Business Forum, alongside interactions with the Indian diaspora.
She will then travel to North Macedonia (July 21–22) for bilateral discussions with President Gordana Siljanovska‑Davkova, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, and the Assembly President. Her itinerary includes an address to the national parliament and participation in the India‑North Macedonia Business Forum.
The final leg of the tour takes her to Romania (July 23–25), the first visit by an Indian President in over three decades. She will meet President Nicusor Dan, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and parliamentary leaders, while also addressing the India‑Romania Business Forum and engaging with the local Indian community.
MEA officials said the mission reflects India’s growing engagement with Central and Eastern Europe and complements its broader strategic partnership with the European Union. Significantly, Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania had earlier denounced the Pahalgam terror attack, reaffirming solidarity with India against global terrorism.
