President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to citizens on the eve of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu, which will be celebrated across the country on January 13 and 14.
In her message, the President described these festivals as symbols of India’s rich agricultural traditions and national unity. She said they reflect the country’s vibrant and diverse cultural heritage while honouring the tireless efforts of farmers who feed the nation.
President Murmu emphasised that these celebrations express gratitude towards Mother Nature and highlight the importance of harmony between people and the environment. She wished that the spirit of love and solidarity in society grows stronger and inspires collective efforts to build a prosperous nation.
The festivals, observed in different regions of India, mark the harvest season and are celebrated with joy, community gatherings, and cultural traditions. Lohri is popular in Punjab, Makar Sankranti is observed across northern and western states, Pongal is celebrated in Tamil Nadu, and Magh Bihu is a major festival in Assam.
