A seven-month pregnant woman, Kalpana Dutta, died under mysterious circumstances in Nuapatna village under Tigiria police station in Cuttack.
Kalpana, married to Dipak Dutta for nine years and mother to a seven-year-old daughter, was reportedly hospitalized before her sudden death.
Her family, upon arriving at Athagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, found her lifeless. Kalpana’s father accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to prolonged mental torture and alleged that she was poisoned. Acting on the complaint, Tigiria police arrested Dipak Dutta and his father Prahallad Dutta. The body was seized and a post-mortem was conducted in the presence of Athagarh Sub-Collector Manas Ranjan before being handed over to the family.
The case has stirred public emotion and raised questions about domestic abuse and the safety of pregnant women in vulnerable households.
