A 14-year-old boy named Krishna Naik from Sagarpalli village under Sheragada police limits drowned in the Rushikulya canal on Thursday evening.

The minor, son of Kuna Naik, had gone to bathe with friends near the Public Works Department bungalow along National Highway 326, close to the Digapahandi-Asika road.

While bathing, Krishna was swept away by the strong current. His companions tried to save him but were unsuccessful. Fire department personnel arrived at the scene after receiving the alert, but due to the onset of night, they were unable to carry out the rescue operation.

On Friday morning, Krishna’s body was found floating near Ramachandrapur under Patapur police limits. Fire personnel retrieved the body and transported it to Sheragada Medical for further procedures. Sheragada police have registered an unnatural death case and sent the body to Asika for post-mortem examination.
