Police intensified the investigation into the death of medical student Chandrika Hembram, seizing crucial WhatsApp chats and audio conversations as digital evidence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Khilari confirmed that the materials were recovered from Chandrika’s residence in Udala, Mayurbhanj, and are being treated as key evidence in the case.
A three-member team from the Barang police station visited Chandrika’s family home, questioning her mother, brother, and relatives. Officials also recorded statements of individuals who spoke to Chandrika before her death. Among the evidence is a WhatsApp chat between Chandrika and her mother, where she mentioned taking a drastic step and accused her boyfriend, OAS officer Bhimasen Tudu, of mental and physical harassment.
Police also seized an audio conversation between Bhimasen and Chandrika’s mother, which is now undergoing forensic examination. Bhimasen remains in judicial custody, and investigators plan to seek his remand for further questioning. Authorities believe additional details may emerge from his interrogation.
Chandrika had expressed her intention to pursue legal action against Bhimasen, according to the recovered messages. Her family demanded that police trace missing personal belongings, including her diary and laptop, which they believe could provide further evidence against Bhimasen and his associates.
DCP Khilari stated that all digital communications are being preserved as evidence and will play a crucial role in the investigation. Police are also examining Chandrika’s stay in Bhubaneswar and her contacts during that period. Officials confirmed that if necessary, individuals not named in the FIR will also be interrogated.
