The Odisha Water Resources Department has shifted into high gear, accelerating post-flood recovery operations across the state.
Senior engineers are conducting on-ground inspections while repair teams work round-the-clock to restore damaged embankments and protect critical water infrastructure.
In Jajpur district, urgent repairs have begun on the temporary breach along the right embankment of the Kani Dahana at Brahmacharipatana and near Kimiriapal on the Brahmani river. Heavy machinery, materials and manpower have been deployed, with work progressing on a war footing.
Continuous day-and-night monitoring is underway on all embankments of the Daya, Rajua, Makara, Bhargavi, Mahanadi, Kushabhadra and Devi rivers flowing through Cuttack, Puri, Khordha and Jagatsinghpur districts. Identified weak spots have been promptly strengthened, successfully preventing potential breaches.
A high-level review meeting was held today at the Flood Cell under the chairmanship of Engineer-in-Chief Dillip Kumar Rout. Senior chief engineers reviewed the current flood situation, Hirakud reservoir operations, river discharges, conditions in downstream areas and the progress of restoration works. All engineering teams have been directed to remain on high alert, maintain 24×7 surveillance and stay fully prepared to respond to any emerging challenges.
Additional inspections were carried out on embankments and irrigation structures under the Khordha Irrigation Division, attended by the Additional Chief Engineer of the Central Circle, the Flood Nodal Officer and field staff. The Kopasingha In-Stream Storage (ISS) under the Sundargarh Irrigation Division was also inspected.
The department continues uninterrupted monitoring of all major dams, reservoirs, river embankments and irrigation structures statewide. Wherever damage has occurred, immediate restoration is in progress. Public safety and the integrity of water infrastructure remain the top priorities as the department stays fully vigilant and prepared.
