The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a detailed report from the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Kendrapara, regarding the alleged human rights violation involving Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikhiri Gram Panchayat.
The Commission directed both officials to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 15 days.
The directive followed a complaint filed by Manoj Jena, Chairperson of Human Rights Front India (HRF), Bhubaneswar. The complaint alleged that Sarpanch Chameli Ojha assaulted and verbally abused a local resident, violating human rights and causing physical and mental distress.
The NHRC, in its official communication dated June 16, 2026, instructed the Kendrapara administration to conduct a thorough investigation and submit findings supported by relevant documents and witness statements. The Commission emphasised accountability and transparency in handling the matter.
Deputy Registrar (Law) Suprava Sahoo signed the letter, which was addressed to both the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police. The Commission also asked for the report to be sent by post and email to ensure timely compliance.
