Paikmal police in Bargarh district arrested five individuals and seized 2,598 drug injections during a major anti-narcotics operation.
Officers also confiscated a Xylo car, a Bullet bike, a scooter, and six mobile phones.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle near Nishani Temple on the Padmapur–Paikmal stretch of Biju Expressway. The suspects were reportedly transporting the narcotics from Bhubaneswar. Authorities confirmed the group’s involvement in a larger drug network operating in western Odisha.
This marks a significant breakthrough for Paikmal police, who had recently arrested another major drug dealer. The latest bust highlights the growing concern over drug trafficking in the region.
Locals expressed alarm over the rising presence of narcotics in rural areas. Many fear an increase in antisocial activities due to easy access to illegal substances. Community leaders called for stronger enforcement and awareness campaigns.
Police and excise officials continue efforts to dismantle drug supply chains. Officers said surveillance has intensified across Bargarh district, especially in border zones and transit routes.
The arrested individuals were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source and distribution network.
The crackdown reflects the administration’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and protecting youth from addiction.
