Police launched an operation late on June 19 to apprehend suspects in the Sector-7 murder case of Tophan Bindhani. Acting on specific intelligence, the team moved swiftly to intercept the accused.
At around 3:30 AM on June 20, the police team confronted the suspects. The accused opened fire, discharging two rounds, one of which struck the bonnet of the Jhirpani Police Station Bolero vehicle. Police exercised their right of private defence and fired four rounds in retaliation.
Two accused sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. Police immediately shifted them to Rourkela Government Hospital, where doctors confirmed their condition as stable. The injured were identified as Nanda Naik and Chunnu Haripa.
Other accused connected to the case include Rohit Mukhi and Rohit Haripa. Police also apprehended Johnson Nag during the operation. Authorities confirmed that weapons and ammunition were seized, and scientific examination of the scene is underway.
The operation relates to Sector-7 P.S. Case No. 145, dated June 16, registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police emphasised that further investigation continues to ensure justice in the murder case.
