Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an invitation to visit the United States during his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi on Saturday.
Rubio extended the invite on behalf of President Donald Trump, according to US Ambassador Sergio Gor.
Rubio met Modi shortly after arriving in the capital following a brief stop in Kolkata. The two leaders discussed sustained progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, focusing on defence, trade, energy, and technology. Modi said India and the US will continue to work closely for global peace and prosperity.
The Prime Minister’s Office stated that Rubio briefed Modi on cooperation across strategic technologies, investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people ties. He also shared US perspectives on regional and global issues, including the situation in West Asia. Modi reaffirmed India’s support for peace efforts and stressed dialogue and diplomacy as the path to resolving conflicts.
Modi requested Rubio to convey his greetings to President Trump and expressed eagerness for continued exchanges.
Rubio will hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday and attend the US Embassy’s Independence Day celebrations. He will travel to Agra and Jaipur before returning to Delhi for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
