Puri: Police seized 522 grams of brown sugar in Talabania Helipad area in Puri district and arrested two persons in this connection.
The accused have been identified as Debasis Das of Gurujangha village and Subham Pattnaik of Saguanbagicha village in Khurda district.
Acting on a tip-off, the Sea Beach police conducted a raid in the Talabania Helipad area and arrested the two accused persons who were smuggling the contraband in a motorcycle. But, another peddler managed to flee from the spot.
Police also seized one KTM M/C Bearing Regd No OD 13 L9721, one Honda Activa M/C bearing Regd No OD 02 AG 6399 and two mobile phones from their possessions.
The accused have been forwarded to the court, and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the smugglers. A manhunt has been launched to catch the third smuggler.
Puri SP Pinak Mishra, Additional SP Susil Kumar Mishra, and DSP Prashant Kumar Sahu were present at the press meeting.
