A shocking murder case near Bhubaneswar has created fear and tension within the transgender community.

On Sunday night, around 9 p.m., Anjali alias Sona, a transgender from Salepur who had been living in Bhubaneswar, was attacked near Uttara Chhak on NH-316 under Pipili police limits. Two youths on a bike stopped her, and after a heated argument, they stabbed her with a knife before fleeing. Her companion rushed her to Capital Hospital, but doctors declared her dead.

Police conducted a post-mortem on Monday and intensified the probe. More than 10 people have been interrogated so far. Investigators suspect multiple individuals may be involved. They are examining CCTV footage from Uttara Chhak to Bhubaneswar and Puri to track the culprits.

Police are exploring different angles, including robbery during the attack or disputes within the transgender community. Officials have not yet achieved a breakthrough but assured that the investigation is progressing.

The transgender community expressed outrage and fear, demanding immediate arrests, a Crime Branch probe, and compensation for Anjali’s family. On Monday, they staged a protest by blocking the Airport Road in Bhubaneswar.
