Balasore: A person was killed while five others sustained injuries after an ambulance proceeding toward West Bengal met with an accident on NH 16 near Jaleswar.
The deceased has been identified as Irshad Khan.
According to reports, the incident took place at Ambuliatha bypass when a speeding truck rammed into the ambulance which was ferrying a patient Irshad Khan to Keshpur village of Medinipur Sadar subdivision of the Paschim Medinipur district from AIIMS Bhubaneswar. However, the truck fled from the spot soon after the incident. Subsequently, a person was killed while the other injured persons were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
Police registered a case and sent the body of the deceased for autopsy. Further investigation is underway in this regard.
