The Odisha State Women’s Commission is grappling with a significant backlog, with 3,694 cases currently pending adjudication. Meanwhile, the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has 2,585 unresolved cases. This year, from April to October, the Women’s Commission received 1,395 new complaints, as revealed by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida in the state Assembly on Saturday, in response to a question from MLA Pabitra Saunta.

According to the minister’s reply, out of the 1,395 new cases filed during this period, 648 have already been resolved. Excluding these, the commission still has 3,694 cases under consideration. On the other hand, since the establishment of the State Child Rights Commission in 2012, a total of 4,453 cases have been registered. Of these, 1,868 have been disposed of, leaving 2,585 cases pending.

The Deputy Chief Minister also provided details on the composition and remuneration of both commissions. The Women’s Commission currently comprises one chairperson and four members, while the OSCPCR has one chairperson and five members. Chairpersons of both bodies receive a monthly salary of Rs 50,000 along with Rs 10,000 for house rent allowance. Members are entitled to Rs 25,000 per month plus Rs 10,000 for housing. Additionally, chairpersons enjoy facilities equivalent to those of a Principal Secretary, and members receive perks akin to an Additional Secretary.
