Anticipation for SS Rajamouli’s next directorial venture, Varanasi, has soared further as producer SS Karthikeya recently offered a glimpse into what audiences can expect from the film’s action choreography.
According to sources, Karthikeya stated that the action sequences in Varanasi will depart significantly from the visual spectacles seen in Rajamouli’s past blockbusters, RRR and Baahubali. Describing the stunts as “crazy,” he promised that every sequence would keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The announcement coincides with the Academy Awards’ introduction of a separate Achievement in Stunt Design category starting in 2028, sparking discussions on whether ambitious global spectacles could vie for the prestigious honour. Karthikeya also touched upon Rajamouli’s dream project, Mahabharata, noting that the filmmaker is not yet ready to take it on, exercising immense patience after a stellar 25-year career.
Written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, Varanasi features Mahesh Babu as Rudhra on a time-travel mission, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran as Kumbha and Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini. The big-budget entertainer is slated for a grand theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
