Odisha Vigilance trapped Prasanna Kumar Pattnaik, Executive Engineer of RWD-I, Rayagada, late on June 23, while he accepted a Rs 2 lakh bribe from a contractor.
He demanded the money to clear bills worth Rs 50 lakh and issue a work experience certificate enabling the contractor to participate in fresh tenders. Initially, Pattnaik sought Rs 2.5 lakh but settled for Rs 2 lakh after negotiation.
The contractor, aggrieved by the demand, alerted Vigilance authorities. Acting swiftly, a team caught Pattnaik red-handed while receiving the bribe. Officials recovered the entire tainted amount from his possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at Pattnaik’s government quarter in Rayagada, his Bhubaneswar residence, his native house in Nayagarh, and his office chamber. During the searches, Vigilance unearthed Rs 3.39 lakh cash from his government quarter. With this, the total cash recovery reached Rs 5.39 lakh.
Pattnaik was due to retire on June 30, 2026. Koraput Vigilance registered Case No. 12/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation continues against the accused.
