Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Ashok Kumar Padhy, former Junior Engineer at the Assistant Soil Conservation Office in Gunupur, Rayagada district.
The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance Court, Brahmapur, today found Padhy guilty under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The court sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment for three years and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,00,000.
Padhy, who has since retired from service, now faces further consequences. Odisha Vigilance will shortly move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of his pension, following his conviction.
This verdict marks another successful prosecution by the vigilance department in its ongoing drive to hold public servants accountable for unexplained wealth. The case highlights the department’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting disproportionate assets cases even after retirement, ensuring that corrupt practices do not go unpunished.
The conviction comes as a significant achievement for Odisha Vigilance in strengthening the fight against graft at the grassroots level of government functioning.
