Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested a Revenue Inspector (RI) of Kaupada Circle in Kendrapada district for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,500 from a landowner to facilitate the issuance of a Record of Rights (ROR) in a mutation case.
The accused has been identified as Sai Darshini Lenka, Revenue Inspector of Kaupada Circle.
Bribe allegedly sought for favourable mutation report
According to Vigilance officials, the complainant had purchased a piece of land from two joint owners several years ago and applied for mutation of the property on June 24, 2026, to obtain the Record of Rights (ROR), commonly known as a land patta, in his name.
The applicant alleged that despite repeated requests to process the mutation case, the Revenue Inspector demanded ₹6,000 to submit a favourable report and facilitate the issuance of the ROR.
When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the amount, the accused allegedly reduced the demand to ₹5,500.
Odisha Vigilance lays trap
Unable to meet the alleged demand, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance, which verified the complaint and organised a trap.
The vigilance team apprehended Sai Darshini Lenka while allegedly accepting the bribe amount of ₹5,500 from the complainant.
Officials said the entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused and seized as evidence.
Searches underway
Following the arrest, Odisha Vigilance launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to the accused to investigate possible disproportionate assets.
Case registered
In connection with the incident, Cuttack Vigilance Police Station Case No. 27 dated July 23, 2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Odisha Vigilance said the investigation is continuing, and further details are expected after the searches are completed.
