Odisha has taken a significant step in India’s journey toward sustainable energy solutions by becoming the first state to announce a Green Hydrogen Policy.
This groundbreaking initiative demonstrates the state’s commitment to industrial decarbonization and the creation of a circular economy, aligning with the broader objectives of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, with members of the CII and other stakeholders in the renewable energy sector.
Deputy CM Singh Deo stated that the policy is expected to drive substantial investments in renewable energy, particularly in green hydrogen production, positioning Odisha as a hub for clean energy innovation. The state is also focusing on building disaster-resilient infrastructure, implementing distribution sector reforms, and investing in projects such as floating solar installations and Pumped Storage Projects (PSP), which will be integrated with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The Confederation of Indian Industry has praised Odisha’s forward-thinking leadership in renewable energy. The state’s proactive approach is expected to capture carbon from flue gases, thereby reducing industrial carbon footprint, especially in light of the state’s Renewable Energy Policy 2022.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev; CMD of OPTCL, Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma; and senior officials from the Energy Department, OPTCL, GRIDCO, TPCODL, CII, and other relevant organisations.
