In a major anti-corruption operation, the Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday intercepted Bidyut Ranjan Bhol, Deputy Manager of the Sambalpur Division of the Odisha Police Housing & Welfare Corporation (OPHWC), while he was allegedly carrying a large amount of unaccounted cash.
Acting on reliable information about bribe collection, a Vigilance team intercepted Bhol near Sambalpur Railway Station today. Officials recovered Rs 5,18,900 in suspected ill-gotten cash from his possession, which he could not satisfactorily account for. The entire amount was seized on the spot.
Following the interception, simultaneous searches were conducted at multiple locations in Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Bhanjanagar (Ganjam) under warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.
During the searches:
- Rs 5,41,700 was recovered from his residential flat at Police Housing Colony, Rasulgarh, Bhubaneswar.
- Rs 34,81,000 was unearthed and seized from his sister’s residence at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar.
With these recoveries, the total cash seized has reached Rs 45,41,600. Searches are still continuing, and a detailed enquiry is underway, the Vigilance said.
